Matthew Hirsch was 40 and working as a clerk at the 7-Eleven on Lambert Road and North Brea Boulevard in Brea when he was fatally shot during an armed robbery on July 11, 2022. The shooting occurred around 4:18 a.m., and Hirsch was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was one of several violent attacks that night targeting 7-Eleven stores across Southern California.

The crime spree began just after midnight in Ontario and included robberies in Upland, a shooting of a customer in Riverside who was left in grave condition, and the fatal shooting of Matthew Rule outside a Santa Ana 7-Eleven. After killing Hirsch in Brea, the suspect continued to La Habra, where two more people were shot and survived. Two suspects from Los Angeles, Malik Patt and Jason Payne, were later arrested in connection with the string of robberies and shootings.

Hirsch’s family and friends held vigils and set up a GoFundMe to support his family; he was remembered as someone who had recently turned his life around after personal struggles. Does anyone have information about Hirsch’s shift that night or the sequence of events at the Brea store?
