Avyeontay Cortez McGee, 17, of El Centro, California, was fatally shot after an argument at a house party near Heil Avenue and Fourth Street on June 4, 2022. The dispute moved outside the party and became a physical altercation before gunfire struck McGee; another person was critically injured in the same incident. McGee was set to graduate from Desert Valley High School and the community observed a moment of silence for him during his graduation ceremony.

The El Centro Police Department said many minors were at the party, which has complicated efforts to locate and interview witnesses. Detective Miguel Garrido urged authorities to track down those witnesses as the department continued searching for suspects and gathering evidence. McGee’s mother, Nohama Hernandez, said she was devastated and that she had not been able to see her son at the hospital.

A GoFundMe was started to help with funeral expenses. What information do readers have about that night or about attendees who might assist the investigation?
