I've been following the tragic case of Daniel Earl Dexter, and something that really struck me was the presence of all those young kids from Fitzgerald Elementary School in the park when the shooting happened. It's terrifying to think about how close they were to such violence. I can't even imagine the fear those children and their teachers must have felt. It’s a small relief that none of them were physically hurt, but I hope they’re getting the support they need to process what occurred. It's just so sad that a place like a park, where families and kids should feel safe, became a scene of tragedy. Sending thoughts and prayers to Daniel’s family and everyone impacted by this heartbreaking event. Let's all continue to push for justice and hope the perpetrator is found soon. I've been following the tragic incident involving Daniel Earl Dexter and something that's been on my mind is the presence of the elementary school kids during the shooting. It must have been terrifying for those little ones and their teachers, not to mention how haunting this experience might be for them moving forward. I can only imagine the chaos and panic at Alec Fergusson Park that day.
I'm grateful none of the students were hurt, but we can't overlook the potential long-term impact on them psychologically. It's commendable that the school staff acted quickly to protect the children, but the fact that such violence broke out in a public space with so many innocent bystanders is deeply troubling.
I hope the school has resources for these kids, like counseling or discussions to help them process what happened. Does anyone know if RUSD has taken any steps in that direction? It's crucial that they get the support they need.

I can't stop thinking about the courage those teachers and security guards showed during the shooting at Alec Fergusson Park. I mean, imagine being on a field trip with a bunch of first and second-graders and suddenly hearing gunshots! It must have been so terrifying for the kids and staff, but to manage to keep all those young kids safe under such pressure is truly commendable.
As a parent, it gives me some comfort to know there are people looking out for the kids' safety like that. Those kids might not fully grasp the gravity of the situation right now, but as they grow older, I hope they understand just how brave their teachers were that day.
