Chiquita Walton, 37, of Lancaster, California, was shot and killed on May 8, 2022, at the Redondo Beach Motel on W. Redondo Beach Boulevard in Gardena. Gardena Police officers responded to reports of a shooting just before 4:45 a.m. and found Walton with a gunshot wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation led to the arrest of Alexander McGowan Jr., 42, also of Lancaster. McGowan was booked on suspicion of murder and held on $2 million bail while detectives continued to investigate motive. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for charging consideration.
