Evan McFarland, a 30-year-old resident of Antelope, California, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of April 26, 2022, on Elverta Road. Sac Metro Fire found McFarland on the ground with severe gunshot wounds; he was taken to a nearby hospital and died shortly after arrival.

Homicide detectives later arrested 24-year-old Edgardo Ernesto Torres, who was on searchable probation for prior offenses including vehicle theft and receiving stolen property. Torres was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail. Authorities have not released a motive and say the investigation is ongoing.

The community remains affected and investigators are asking for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to help clarify the events leading up to McFarland’s death. If anyone has relevant information, will they contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office?
