Derol Louis Del Rio, 62, was shot and killed on April 2, 2022, on the 300 block of Minner Avenue in Oildale, California. Deputies with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly after 4:00 a.m. and found Del Rio pronounced dead at the scene with three gunshot wounds to the chest. Neighbors told investigators the shooter was still at the scene and standing next to Del Rio’s body when they called 9-1-1.

The suspect, 38-year-old Jarrit Perrette, was arrested without incident after a brief standoff inside Del Rio’s home. Investigators said Perrette had been Del Rio’s next-door neighbor for years until moving away in 2021 and continued to harass and vandalize Del Rio’s property. On the morning of the killing Perrette reportedly arrived armed with five loaded guns, more than 300 pounds of spare ammunition, two bottles of lighter fluid, a lighter, and a police scanner, then knocked and shot Del Rio with an AR-15.

Perrette was convicted of murder in November 2022 and later sentenced in January 2025.
