Roberto Eladio Gonzalez, 26, of Cottonwood, California, was fatally shot inside a home on Pancake Hill in Shasta Lake on March 31, 2022. Gonzalez was found unarmed and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, where he died. Authorities say the shooting occurred after Gonzalez allegedly made advances toward another man’s girlfriend; the man charged in the case is 58-year-old Dwight Stewart Honeycutt.
Honeycutt, described as a convicted felon and registered sex offender, was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail. Investigators say Honeycutt admitted to shooting Gonzalez with an illegal sawed-off shotgun after a confrontation in which Honeycutt and his girlfriend returned home and found Gonzalez inside. Deputies say Gonzalez had used controlled substances with Honeycutt earlier the same day. Honeycutt pleaded not guilty at arraignment to murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing a short-barreled shotgun; bail was set at $1 million and further court dates were scheduled in April and May 2022.
Does anyone in the Shasta Lake area have information about Gonzalez’s movements that day or about the events at the Pancake Hill residence?
