Justin Peoples, a 30-year-old Navy veteran and father of two, died after a violent confrontation at a Chevron gas station in Tracy, California. The attack took place shortly after 9 p.m. on March 16, 2022, when Peoples was shot once and stabbed multiple times. He was found by officers with severe injuries and taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Authorities say the altercation involved two suspects, Christina Lyn Garner, 42, and Jeremy Wayne Jones, 49, who were arrested the morning after the attack and charged with first-degree murder plus hate crime enhancements; police described the attack as driven by racial hatred and noted Jones had tattoos the authorities linked to white supremacist affiliations. A third person, Christopher Dimenco, 58, was charged as an accessory to murder for allegedly helping Garner and Jones evade arrest.
Peoples family members and local officials have reacted strongly to the killing, and the case has prompted community discussion about racial violence. If anyone has information about what happened at the Chevron that night or knew Justin, please come forward to the investigators.
