Bahadur Singh, a 60-year-old Benicia resident and owner of Rose Market, was shot and killed during a robbery at his store on March 8, 2022. Officers responding to an alarm at about 10 p.m. found Singh suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Singh was remembered by the community for his kindness and generosity, often giving free candies and ice cream to children who visited his shop, and for the role he played in his family after immigrating to the United States in the early 1990s.
Investigators used surveillance footage showing a man fleeing the scene to identify and locate 21-year-old Nyzell Marquis Dubuisson, who was arrested on March 11, 2022 and charged with murder, conspiracy, and robbery in connection with the killing. He was arraigned in Solano County Superior Court and entered a not-guilty plea; court records show a trial setting was scheduled for August 26, 2024 and he remained in custody without bail at Stanton Correctional Facility in Fairfield.
Anyone who knew Bahadur Singh, saw activity near Rose Market on March 8, 2022, or has information about the robbery is asked to come forward.
