On December 25, 2021, a family Christmas gathering on Goodfellow Avenue in Reedley, California, ended in gunfire. Fresno County deputies responding about 1:45 PM found 58-year-old Magdalena Alvarez and 39-year-old Meisa Rashid with fatal gunshot wounds. A 23-year-old family member, identified as Austin Alvarez, fled the scene in a GMC pickup but was arrested later that day near Orange Cove, about 10 miles away.
Investigators say Austin Alvarez arrived at the home, opened fire during the visit, then fired at his father as he left; the father was not struck. Authorities charged Austin Alvarez with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, and a judge later found him mentally competent to stand trial.
If anyone attended the gathering or has information about what led to the shooting, please share what is known with investigators.
