Maricela Diaz, 41, was found fatally shot on September 12, 2016, near 9th Street and Locust Avenue in Long Beach. Officers located Diaz at that scene; the shooting left the neighborhood shaken and investigators described the homicide’s circumstances as unclear with no publicly identified motive or suspect information during the initial probe.

Detectives believed there may have been witnesses in the area and released surveillance footage of a person of interest. The individual was described as a male in his 20s or 30s and was captured on video shortly after the shooting boarding a blue line train out of the immediate area. City officials announced a reward to encourage tips, but investigators reported limited leads as the case remained open.
