Lilliam Orozco-Zelaya was 26 and a mother of three when she was killed on November 6, 2021, in her apartment on Bel Mar Avenue in Daly City, California. Prosecutors say her estranged husband, Eriberto Beltran Arenas, confronted her that evening and shot her twice in the head and once in the leg while her 4-year-old child was in the next room; a roommate reportedly locked the door to protect the child. Beltran Arenas allegedly called Orozco-Zelaya’s mother and other family members to confess after the shooting and was apprehended shortly afterward by the San Francisco Police Department; he was listed as the owner of 18 firearms.
Beltran Arenas was charged with murder and his trial began in May 2024. Jurors heard evidence and testimony about the events before and after the killing, but the jury deadlocked on whether the crime was a heat-of-passion act or premeditated; a mistrial was declared and the jury dismissed. He was returned to jail on $11 million bail while prosecutors considered a retrial. Orozco-Zelaya’s family set up a GoFundMe and has spoken about the loss and the effect on her young children.
Does anyone have information about Lilliam’s life in Daly City or the people who might help clarify what happened that night?
