Willie Sutton was shot and killed on October 27, 2021, in Barstow, California. Officers were called about a shooting outside an apartment complex on the 100 block of West Buena Vista Street at about 5:37 p.m. They found Sutton in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to Barstow Community Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Investigators say Sutton was shot multiple times but a motive remained unclear. The Barstow Police Department canvassed the area, reviewed nearby surveillance footage, and made public appeals for information, but no suspect was immediately identified and the case stayed open as detectives followed leads. A separate stabbing near Barstow High School the same day led to an arrest, and police said that incident was not directly connected to Sutton’s shooting.

If anyone saw activity around the 100 block of West Buena Vista Street that afternoon or has information that could help investigators, please come forward.
