Kimberly Gutierrez, 22, of La Mesa was found dead on October 20, 2021, near a cul-de-sac at the end of Quarry Road in Bonita. A deputy on patrol near Sweetwater Summit Regional Park discovered her body about 3 a.m. that day. The autopsy found she had been shot four times and was bound at the wrists with makeshift handcuffs.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department investigated and later arrested 32-year-old Evaline Janet Lemus of Chula Vista. Lemus was already in custody on a separate case when charged in connection with Gutierrez’s killing; reports did not immediately disclose how Lemus was identified or a motive. Lemus subsequently pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the case and was sentenced to 18 years to life in September 2023.
If anyone knew Kimberly, saw activity near Quarry Road around October 20, 2021, or has information about the events leading up to her death, please share what you know.
