Joaquin Kenny Tenorio, 35, was fatally shot outside his Union City home on Queen Anne Drive on October 1, 2021 as he prepared to go for a motorcycle ride. His wife, who was across the street at a family member’s house, heard a faint gunshot, found him on the ground and emergency efforts were unsuccessful. The city’s police department called it Union City’s first homicide since 2019 and opened an investigation.

Detectives canvassed the area, collected evidence and took witness statements. The suspect was seen driving away after the shooting; no arrests have been announced. Family and friends described Tenorio as a hard-working, happy man devoted to his sons, a nephew he had raised, and his wife. They said he was not involved in drugs or gangs and had no known enemies; his wife suggested he might have recognized the shooter and mentioned a possible dispute over a debt, but that was not confirmed.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the person seen fleeing the scene is asked to come forward.
