Shawn Vigo was 23 when he was shot and killed in Kingsburg, California, on the evening of August 16, 2021. The shooting occurred around 9:00 PM near 18th and Lewis Street. Kingsburg Police found Vigo lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds; officers and emergency medical personnel performed life-saving measures but he was pronounced dead at the scene. It was the city’s first homicide of 2021.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation at the Kingsburg department’s request. Early investigative statements said the shooting did not appear random and that Vigo had been specifically targeted, though motive remained unclear. Detectives explored multiple leads, including a possible gang angle, and asked residents for surveillance footage and other tips. No arrests had been announced, and the case remained unsolved as investigators renewed appeals for information in November 2024, noting the toll on Vigo’s family.
