Doris Antwine, 72, died after a fire at her North 49th Street home in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 28, 2013. Firefighters found her body inside the residence when called to the scene between 3:00 a.m. and 3:45 a.m. She was known as a mother, grandmother, and the head cook for the East Baton Rouge Food Service Department.
Investigators initially reported no signs of foul play, but the Baton Rouge Fire Department continued its probe and later determined the fire was not accidental. Six months after the blaze the coroner’s office ruled Antwine’s death a homicide. Authorities have not identified a suspect or a motive, and no arrests or charges have been announced. The investigation remains open.
