Israel Trevino Jr., 57, a retired correctional officer from Parlier, California, was shot and killed outside his home on May 2, 2021. The shooting followed a confrontation between Trevino, his son Israel Trevino III, and a local resident, Joe Gomez Jr., who witnesses said had been driving erratically and causing disturbances near the Trevino residence that day.

According to accounts, Gomez parked, approached the family and a heated altercation ensued. Gomez allegedly produced a firearm and shot Israel Trevino Jr., fatally wounding him; Israel Trevino III sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Gomez was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and assault. At trial the prosecution argued Gomez had a history of antagonizing the Trevino family and acted with premeditation; the defense asserted Gomez fired in self-defense. The jury found Gomez guilty on all counts.

The killing left a deep impact on Trevino’s family and the Parlier community. If anyone witnessed the events that day or has additional information about the confrontation leading up to the shooting, please share what is known.
