Alfredo Vargas, 28, was shot and killed on April 22, 2021, in Lompoc, California. Officers who responded to reports of shots fired around 5:30 p.m. found Vargas inside a vehicle on the 600 block of West Maple Avenue, near North N Street, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Lompoc Valley Medical Center, where he died.

The vehicle, a Chevy Malibu, had been reported stolen from Santa Maria two days earlier and was later found burned off Ocean Avenue near Legge Avenue. The Lompoc Police Department is investigating but has made no arrests; detectives have reviewed area surveillance and interviewed potential witnesses while seeking a motive. Authorities say there is not enough information yet to determine whether the shooting was gang-related.

If anyone was in the area that evening or has information about the stolen Chevy Malibu, the shooting, or events leading up to April 22, please contact the Lompoc Police Department.
