Margarett Lee Moon, 40, was one of three people killed on February 10, 2021, at a home on the Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria Reservation in Loleta, California. The other victims were her 16-year-old daughter, Shelly Autumn Mae Moon, and her fiancé, Nikki Dion Metcalf. A juvenile in the home called 911; deputies found two people dead and a third critically injured, who later died at a local hospital. Two other children in the house were physically unharmed.
An 18-year-old acquaintance, Mauricio Eduardo Johnson, was a guest in the home that morning and is reported to have shot the three victims before fleeing. He was located in Utah the next day while traveling with his mother and her friend and was charged in connection with the killings. Reports say the motive was unclear, though investigators were looking into a relationship between Johnson and Shelly.
Both Margarett and Shelly worked at Loleta Elementary School as aides and tutors, and the deaths deeply affected the Bear River and Loleta communities. If anyone knew Margarett or has information about the case, please share what you know.
