Christian Ruiz, 43, of Hesperia, California, was fatally shot in the early morning of January 7, 2021. Deputies answered a call about 4:15 a.m. on the 11200 block of Third Avenue and found Ruiz with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly afterward.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified 29-year-old Andrew Manuel Espinoza of San Bernardino as the primary suspect. He was located and arrested the next day at a Motel 6 near Interstate 215 and University Parkway and charged with murder; bail was set at $1 million and he was held at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Also arrested was 29-year-old Vanessa Loraine Amaya of Hesperia, found at the scene and held without bail on suspicion of being an accessory to murder. The felony complaint alleges Espinoza unlawfully and with malice aforethought killed Ruiz by discharging a firearm, and alleges Amaya harbored, concealed, and aided Espinoza to help him avoid arrest, trial, conviction, and punishment. Motive remained under investigation.
Does anyone have information about Ruiz’s last movements on January 7, 2021, or about activity on Third Avenue that morning?
