Jerry Jay Bonds, 39, and his brother Randy Bonds, 33, were found dead on October 21, 2020, in a wooded area off Ponderosa Way in Forbestown, California. The brothers had traveled from Florida, flown into Los Angeles and rented a car that was later found abandoned in Boomtown, Nevada after the family reported them missing.
Investigators say the Butte County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI conducted a multi-state probe that resulted in arrests. Authorities charged Michael Griff, Austin Hogan and Kyle Smith with the murders. Officials allege the brothers met the suspects in a remote area to buy marijuana; Griff and Hogan then shot the brothers while Smith helped conceal the bodies under brush and logs.
Michael Griff later pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and received a state prison term of 50 years to life. Austin Hogan pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and faced a 30 years to life sentence; Kyle Smith was scheduled for trial in December 2023. If anyone knew the Bonds brothers’ travel plans, movements in California or the locations mentioned, please share what you know.
