Randy Bonds, 33, was found shot to death on October 21, 2020, in a wooded area off Ponderosa Way near Forbestown, California. He and his brother Jerry Bonds, 39, had flown into Los Angeles on October 19, 2020, rented a car and drove to Butte County; both brothers were discovered shot and concealed under brush and logs in the remote location. Their family reported them missing after losing contact, prompting a multi-state investigation involving the Butte County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.

Investigators tied the killings to an arranged marijuana purchase involving three men identified as Michael Griff, Austin Hogan, and Kyle Smith. Surveillance footage captured Smith dropping off the brothers’ rental car at a casino in Reno, Nevada. Griff, Hogan and Smith were arrested on October 22, 2020. Several questions remain about what happened between the meeting for the drug purchase and the brothers being killed, and about each suspect’s role in the remote crime scene.

If anyone has information about the brothers’ movements in California between October 19 and October 21, 2020, or about the arrangement that brought them to Forbestown, please come forward.
