Jamie Eugene Wilcox, 44, was killed on September 23, 2020, at a family property on Twining Road in Talmage, a community near Ukiah, California. Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting call about 8:07 a.m.; Wilcox was pronounced dead at the scene and a 28-year-old man — Wilcox’s spouse — was critically injured and airlifted to hospital.

Authorities identified 65-year-old Thomas Dean Jones as the suspect. Jones, described as Wilcox’s stepfather, was reported to have surrendered at the scene. Investigators said the shooting arose from a family dispute over potential development of the property and escalated while the two men were preparing to leave for work; Jones allegedly opened fire.

An arrest followed and Jones faced charges including first-degree murder, attempted murder and being armed during a felony. The family’s loss and the surviving victim’s severe injuries underscore how a domestic property dispute turned deadly.
