Eric Aguiar was 17 when he was fatally shot in the parking lot of Sonora High School on the evening of September 16, 2020. He is described as a vibrant, athletic young man who was a beloved son, brother, and friend; his death left a profound void in the small Sonora community.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office identified 20-year-old Joshua Rodriguez of Tuolumne as the primary suspect. Rodriguez was located in Centerville, Utah, where Centerville Police and Bountiful Metro SWAT took him into custody; he was held there pending extradition to Tuolumne County on murder-related charges.
