Cynthia Mose, 56, was shot dead during her birthday party on September 7, 2020, at 1720 W. Bayshore Road in East Palo Alto. The event was also a memorial for her recently deceased brother. Police say Mose and her 55-year-old ex-boyfriend Joey Harris, both from Stockton, stepped outside the building after an argument; Harris allegedly shot her once in the chest and once in the back. Officers attempted to save her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses at the party quickly identified Harris as the shooter. He fled but later turned himself in to Stockton police and surrendered the handgun. Harris was arrested, charged with murder, held without bail in Redwood City on $10 million, and pleaded not guilty while arguing the shooting was a heat-of-passion act that should be reduced to voluntary manslaughter; prosecutors have described the killing as motivated by jealousy and seeking first-degree murder charges. The case was set for a preliminary hearing on January 14, 2021.
Did anyone at the party or in East Palo Alto notice tensions between Mose and Harris leading up to that night?
