Abdallah Abushawish, 61, was shot and killed at his Nuevo, California meat market on August 19, 2020, following a dispute over the price of carne asada. Three individuals attempted to pay with an EBT card, and an argument over the cost — which Abushawish said reflected the meat’s higher quality — escalated. During the confrontation, one of the men produced a 9mm handgun and shot Abushawish multiple times. He was taken to Riverside University Medical Center but died less than an hour later.
The suspects fled in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. Two were stopped by deputies a few hours later after the vehicle description was broadcast; the third was dropped off at a companion’s home. Investigators determined the robbery had been planned, with one person firing the shots and the others in supporting roles. The community reacted with shock to the killing of a long-standing local business owner.
Did anyone in Nuevo see the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu or have information about that night?
