Arturo Eugene Bent II, 52, was shot and killed outside the FoodMaxx grocery store in Red Bluff, California, on August 3, 2020. After being shot in the upper chest, he managed to stumble into the store before collapsing; the wound proved fatal and he died shortly afterward. The Red Bluff Police Department identified Elfego Chavez Acevedo as the primary suspect, saying Acevedo approached Bent, produced a firearm and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.

An arrest warrant for Acevedo was issued on August 27, 2020, and law enforcement later located and apprehended him after a standoff in Corning on December 11, 2020. Prosecutors charged Acevedo with first-degree murder with the personal discharge of a firearm causing death; at trial the prosecution introduced evidence of his prior felony convictions for robbery and criminal threats. The family remembered Bent as joyful and vibrant and expressed gratitude to the jury and officers involved.

If anyone has information about Arturo Bent, his movements that day, or witnessed the shooting, please come forward.
