Richard Sanchez was 31 and a resident of Hanford, California, when he was shot and killed on July 19, 2020. Officers responding late that evening to the 700 block of South Redington Street found Sanchez lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. A citizen began CPR and EMS also attempted life-saving measures, but Sanchez died at the scene.

Hanford Police opened a homicide investigation and described the shooting as occurring in a neighborhood with occasional criminal activity; motive has not been established. Investigators identified three people wanted for questioning in connection with the case: Fred Dejon Wills, 27, Larry Jame, 26, and Amber Douthard, 30. No further details about their roles have been released.
