Alexander Charles Hagist, 35, of San Luis Obispo was shot and killed at his Chorro Street home on the evening of July 16, 2020. He worked in promotions and sales for breweries on the Central Coast and was a father of four; friends and family remember him for his vibrant personality and involvement with his children.

Police and court documents say his wife, Skylar Marie Marshall, pointed a loaded semi-automatic handgun at Alexander’s forehead and pulled the trigger. Skylar told investigators she believed the gun was unloaded but admitted she was not certain; both Alexander and a roommate had previously warned her about handling firearms carelessly. She was arrested and charged in connection with his death.

At a preliminary hearing on April 29, 2021, the murder charge was dismissed and only involuntary manslaughter proceeded. Evidence introduced noted Skylar’s prior experience with firearms and that she did not check the gun or magazine before pointing it at Alexander and pulling the trigger. Anyone with memories of Alexander or information about the case is asked to come forward.
