Michael Barton Stanfill, 66, was one of two people found dead at a shooting scene on Gail Lane in Shingletown, California, on June 27, 2020. Jon Charles Depoorter was also killed in the same incident. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office identified 35-year-old Daun Eric Sanders as the suspect; deputies said Sanders was not at his residence when they arrived and believed he had fled in a dark-colored pickup truck and was armed and dangerous.
Authorities noted Sanders had a May 5, 2020, arrest warrant for failing to appear on domestic violence and vandalism charges. The Shasta County Major Crimes Unit conducted an extensive search and asked anyone with information to contact investigators, while warning the public not to confront Sanders if seen. The community was left reeling as investigators worked to establish the full sequence of events that led to the double homicide.
If anyone in Shingletown has information about what happened on Gail Lane or saw the suspect’s vehicle, please contact the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
