Troy Edward Venson, 63, was shot to death in the early morning hours of June 2, 2020, near 2614 W. 17th St. in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner ruled the death a homicide; Venson died at the scene despite medical attention. Reports state he was shot multiple times.
LAPD detectives canvassed the area, reviewed nearby surveillance footage, and interviewed witnesses. An anonymous tip led investigators to a suspect who had previous altercations with Venson; that person was arrested and questioned after inconsistencies in an alibi and forensic links to the scene were reported. The prosecutor filed first-degree murder charges and the case proceeded to trial.
