Juan Manuel Valencia Vargas, 20, of Richfield, California, was killed by gunfire on April 30, 2020, near Thomes Creek just north of Corning. He and 22-year-old Edgar Alejandro Villa Valencia both suffered gunshot wounds to the torso during an evening gathering along the creek bed near Highway 99W. Friends transported Juan Manuel to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival; Edgar Alejandro Villa Valencia was found dead at the scene about 200 yards from where the shooting began.

Authorities have identified a primary suspect in the double homicide: 27-year-old Roberto Valencia of Corning. An arrest warrant charging him with murder has been issued, and he remains at large. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to contact the Tehama Major Crimes Unit with any information.
