Kelly Kalim Malik Dupree was 18 and a student at Merced College when he was shot to death on March 7, 2020, in Chowchilla, California. The shooting happened about 12:30 AM while he sat in a parked vehicle outside a house party on Avenue 20 near Road 14. Witnesses said at least two male suspects approached the vehicle, opened fire, then fled in a nearby car. Dupree died at the scene; a 19-year-old companion was wounded, later taken to a hospital after being dropped off at the Chowchilla Police Department.
The Madera County Sheriff’s Office investigated, saying the violence appeared targeted and noting they were exploring possible gang or drug-related motives. No arrests had been announced and the suspects remained unidentified. A small memorial of candles, flowers and athletic cleats marked the spot where Dupree was killed. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators or use anonymous tip lines.
