Beatriz Guzman, 35, of Twentynine Palms was found fatally shot on March 5, 2020, near the Twentynine Palms Marine Base. Deputies responding to multiple calls about a man walking in the neighborhood with a gun located Guzman lying on the roadway next to a vehicle on Power Line Road, west of Morongo Road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified 36-year-old Josh Simon of San Bernardino as the primary suspect; Simon and Guzman were reported to have been in a dating relationship. After the shooting Simon barricaded himself inside a residence then surrendered to deputies and was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, held without bail. Homicide detectives are continuing the investigation and the motive remains under investigation.

If anyone saw activity on Power Line Road or has information about Guzman’s movements or her relationship with Simon that could help investigators, please come forward.
