Philip Haney, 66, a former Department of Homeland Security official and whistleblower, was found dead on February 21, 2020, near Plymouth, California. He was discovered in a park-and-ride area adjacent to Highway 16 and Highway 124 with a single gunshot wound; a firearm was found next to his body and vehicle.

The Amador County Sheriff’s Office initially reported that the wound appeared self-inflicted but later retracted that characterization, saying no official determination had been made and the investigation was ongoing. The FBI was asked to assist; investigators took Haney’s vehicle, firearm, RV, a laptop, phone records and documents for analysis. No arrests have been announced and no suspects have been publicly identified. Haney had testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2016 alleging DHS ordered deletion of files on individuals tied to Islamist terrorist groups, and his critics and family have raised concerns about possible foul play.

Does anyone have information about Haney’s movements or contacts in the days before February 21, 2020?
