Lila Christian was 21 when she was fatally shot in Roseville, California, on February 5, 2020. The shooting occurred in the early morning at an apartment complex; she was later found dead in a car not far from that complex. She had just celebrated her 21st birthday shortly before her death.
Investigators linked the shooting to a broader human trafficking investigation. Jordan Townsend, 27, was arrested and charged with human trafficking in connection with the incident. Townsend’s girlfriend, Britany Holton, was arrested and charged with murder. Townsend told authorities that Holton acted in self-defense after an altercation with a group outside their apartment; he said the group attacked Holton, who then retrieved a gun and fired, killing Christian and wounding another person.
What details about that night or the people involved might help explain how events escalated to deadly violence?
