William Joseph Lara, 36, of McFarland, California, was shot and killed on the evening of January 10, 2020. Deputies responded to reports of shots fired just before 7 p.m.; Lara was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been on his way to a nearby store on 5th Street when the shooting occurred, McFarland’s first homicide of the year.

Witnesses reported a dark-colored vehicle leaving the scene shortly after the shooting. No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made. The McFarland Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate and have asked the community for information.
