Emma Jane Hunt, 32, was found with gunshot wounds at the corner of Larkin and O’Farrell streets in the Tenderloin around 3:45 a.m. on January 5, 2020. She was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and pronounced dead. Emma was a mother of two.
The San Francisco Police Department arrested two males in connection with the killing: Kevin Lopez-Figueroa, 18, who was taken into custody by the narcotics unit near Eddy Street and Van Ness Avenue, and a 17-year-old male who was detained after a search warrant at an apartment on Mission Bay Boulevard; the juvenile’s name was not disclosed. Both were charged with conspiracy and homicide.
Emma’s death was reported as one of three killings of African-American women in their thirties in San Francisco within a 30-day period, all of whom were mothers. City officials and community leaders responded by calling for more community ambassadors, increased foot patrols, and expanded access to victims’ compensation and trauma recovery services.
If anyone knew Emma or has information about her killing, please share what you remember.
