James Curtis Hampton, a 39-year-old father of three, was shot and killed on December 2, 2019, in Hesperia, California. Authorities say two armed men broke into his residence on the 16500 block of Smoke Street; during the disruption Hampton ran into the street and was found shot outside his home. Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department have been investigating, questioning potential witnesses including Hampton’s roommate, but no arrests have been announced. Investigators describe the incident as a robbery attempt that turned deadly. Hampton’s death was the second homicide in Hesperia that week, and the family has been publicly urging anyone with information to come forward.
If anyone saw activity near Smoke Street on December 2, 2019, or has information about the two armed suspects, please contact investigators with what is known.
