Alberto Rafael Sosa Alvarez, 21, of Cathedral City, was shot and killed after a party in Cathedral City on August 19, 2019. The gathering became tense after a guest, later identified as Christian Isaiah Jimenez, 24, was discovered in the host’s parents’ bedroom and fled the house with a companion. Jimenez is reported to have returned to the party twice; on his second return shortly after midnight on August 19 Sosa approached him, demanding the return of allegedly stolen property. According to court records, Jimenez warned Sosa, counted down and then fired. Sosa was found with gunshot wounds on a sidewalk in the 68300 block of Madrid Road and died at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs despite life-saving efforts.
Jimenez was arrested on September 3, 2019, and charged with murder with a firearm enhancement. Prosecutors say the shooting was intentional; the defense has asserted self-defense. What details about that night or the people present might help clarify what happened?
