Alfredo Antonio Carrera, 24, was fatally shot on August 14, 2019, in the Florence-Firestone section of South Los Angeles. Carrera was standing in his driveway at about 7 p.m., talking with a childhood friend, Jose Antonio Flores Velazquez, who had returned to drop off a gift for Carrera’s upcoming baby shower. A dark-colored sedan approached and someone inside began shooting. Both Carrera and Flores Velazquez were struck; Carrera was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at 7:57 p.m., while Flores Velazquez died at the scene. A third man nearby, strapping his baby into a car seat, was also hit but survived.
Witnesses reported at least two people in the sedan and heard yelling before the shooting. Surveillance video and witness accounts helped identify the vehicle as a blue 2004 Nissan Maxima with heavy body damage. On August 16, 2019, Santa Clarita deputies located the car and arrested Jonathan Charles Johnson, 27, of Lancaster. He was charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and shooting from a motor vehicle, with special-circumstance gang and multiple-murder allegations and an allegation he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm. He was held without bail pending arraignment. Investigators sought additional suspects and asked the public for information.
Does anyone have information about the shooting, the vehicle, or others who may have been involved?
