Erasmo Chris Torres, 24, of El Centro was fatally shot on August 4, 2019 near the train tracks on Hamilton Street. He was with his brother when a man approached and a verbal argument escalated; the suspect produced a gun and fired multiple shots. Torres was struck and later died; his brother escaped and reported the shooting, and their mother called 911. Torres left behind three children and was remembered by family as a great friend and a wonderful father.

Investigators later noted a connection between this killing and a separate homicide less than six weeks later: Raul Esparza, 30, was found burned beyond recognition near the same railroad tracks. Erasmo’s mother, Rosita Deborah Torres, was arrested on August 20, 2019 and charged in Esparza’s murder, along with Daniel Alexander Munguia, but police did not formally state that the two deaths were linked.
