Jean Moore Smith, 59, was shot in the neck and killed at her home on Rancho Vista Road in Vista, California, on April 13, 2019. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Deputies arrested her husband, Andrew Thomas Smith, at the scene after he called 911 reporting the shooting and expressing remorse while saying she had pushed him to the limit. He was charged with first-degree murder; at trial the prosecution argued the shooting was deliberate and the defense sought lesser charges. A jury convicted him of first-degree murder and imposed a 50 years to life term, plus a 25 years-to-life firearm enhancement.

An appeals court panel later upheld the first-degree murder conviction but found he may be entitled to re-sentencing that could affect the firearm enhancement. If anyone knew Jean or has information about the events leading up to April 13, 2019, please come forward.
