Carlo David Avila, 27, was found shot and unresponsive in an alley behind 8914 Delrose Avenue in Spring Valley in the early hours of March 21, 2019. Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of gunfire about 1:20 a.m., and Avila died at the scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office was scheduled to perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Investigators arrested 22-year-old Carlos Davis of La Mesa later the same day. He was booked into San Diego Central Jail without bail on one count of first-degree murder and was expected to appear in court the following Tuesday. Authorities had not released any information about a possible motive, and the investigation was ongoing.
