Brandon Bryce Dawson, 26, of Orland, California, was last seen in the early morning hours of March 8, 2019, at a rural Orland residence and was reported missing on March 10, 2019, by his mother and girlfriend. The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office initially handled the case as a missing person investigation but upgraded it to a homicide on April 19, 2019, after investigators gathered evidence and determined the circumstances were suspicious.

Investigators say Dawson became involved in a dispute with several people over illegal drugs and that he was believed to have been kidnapped, tortured, and murdered on or after March 8, 2019. His body was later disposed of in a wilderness area in Colusa County; searches there used cadaver dogs and search-and-rescue teams from Colusa and Glenn counties and handlers from across Northern California.

In 2021 the Glenn Investigative Narcotics Task Force arrested four men: Stanley Scott Grundy, Clayton Stanley Humphrey, John Cornelius Poldervaart, and Lane Cleo Walker Jr., on charges including kidnapping, torture, and first-degree murder or related allegations. Those arrests were publicly announced in July and August 2021 and the suspects were taken into custody.
