Cody Jacob Sorensen, 25, of Oakdale, California, was shot and killed on February 10, 2019, at the Bonnie Villa Apartments on Poplar Street. Known in his community for rodeo and bull riding, family and friends remembered him as kind-hearted, a mentor to young cowboys and someone whose smile lit up a room.

Oakdale police say Cody and William Beck Usilton III had been drinking together at a bar before returning to Usilton’s apartment. An argument followed and Usilton allegedly shot Cody in the face, killing him. Witness help led to Usilton’s arrest and he was charged with murder; the precise details of the argument have not been disclosed.
