Andrew Edward Gallegos, 30, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of January 24, 2019, while standing on the sidewalk in the 13200 block of Valley Boulevard near the Bliss Showgirls strip club in Avocado Heights, California. He and a cousin had been out for drinks and were waiting for a taxi around 2:20 a.m. when a man described only as a Latino drove up, got out of his vehicle, and began shooting. Gallegos was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene at 2:32 a.m.; his cousin was uninjured but could not provide many details about the shooter or the vehicle, which was last seen heading west on Valley Boulevard.

Investigators found no known relationship or altercation between Gallegos and the suspect, and the motive remains unclear. Gallegos was married and worked for a construction company; family members called the killing senseless and appealed for help. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau sought surveillance footage and public tips; no arrests have been announced.
