MarcAnthony Mendivil, 44, was shot in the early morning hours of December 29, 2018, at a home in the 2300 block of Wilbur Avenue in Pacific Beach, San Diego. He was taken to a hospital and died of his wounds shortly after the shooting. The incident grew out of a dispute over occupancy of the house where Mendivil was living; the homeowner, Paul Charles Weinberger, had previously evicted another resident, Freddy Sosa, and later sought Sosa’s help to forcibly remove Mendivil.
Sosa brought in Carlos Yslas and Pedro Ramirez. During the confrontation, Yslas shot Mendivil twice after believing Mendivil was reaching for a weapon. The investigation described a web of drug dealing, jealousy, and shifting alliances that culminated in the deadly eviction. Several participants later pleaded guilty to violent charges and received multi-year prison terms.
If anyone knew MarcAnthony Mendivil, his movements that night, or saw activity near Wilbur Avenue on December 29, 2018, please share information with investigators.
