Deverrie Schiller, 23, was found dead in a secluded area of California City’s Central Park on June 26, 2016. Her death was ruled a homicide by strangulation. Photographs of her body were shared on social media soon after she was discovered, adding to the family’s distress.
Despite sustained local campaigns by her mother, Debi Fones, and publicity efforts including billboards erected in 2018, no suspects have been publicly identified and the case remains unsolved. Fones has been publicly critical of the investigation, citing understaffing and an alleged prioritization of drug offenses over violent crime in the city’s law enforcement approach.
Anyone who knew Deverrie, was in or near Central Park on June 26, 2016, or has information that could help the investigation is urged to contact local authorities.
